Young People's Business Challenge Finale
The Young People's Business Challenge is a regional youth initiative that was created by Wakenagun Community Futures Development Corporation (CFDC) in an effort to encourage youth to develop their entrepreneurial skills and abilities. Wakenagun CFDC visited a total of five communities to deliver this program to the youth.
The Young Peoples Business Challenge (YPBC) was created with a “Dragon’s Den” vision in mind, whereby teams of youth presented their business ideas to a panel of judges. The teams competed against each other for the winning spot to represent their community at the grand finale of the YPBC. The Grand Finale was hosted in Moose Factory from June 13-15, 2017.
During the implementation of this project, it is our hope that we encouraged youth to recognize the entrepreneurial abilities and skills they have within themselves. We hope to see more youth engaging in entrepreneurial initiatives that may create a sustainable future for themselves, their fellow youth and community members.
This project was made possible by our funders, the Ministry of Tourism Culture and Sport as part of the Ontario 150 Partnership program in commemoration with Canada 150. Further acknowledgements are made to our partners, the Mushkegowuk Council Youth Department and the Moose Cree First Nation Youth Services department. This project would also not be possible without funding from Wakenagun CFDC, Detour Gold and Ontario Power Generation.
